The Brandywell out-fit were second best throughout at a sun drenched Carlisle Grounds and they had goalkeeper Gerard Doherty and the woodwork to thank for their 0-0 draw.

The net-minder produced two top quality saves to deny both Robert Maloney and Ismahil Akinade in the first half, then right on the stroke of half-time Welsh referee Iwan Griffith rightfully pointed to the spot after Danny Ventre blocked Akinade’s cross with his hand inside the box, but fortunately for the midfielder Graham Kelly’s penalty came back off the crossbar.

In the 88th minute the visitors nearly stole the points but Michael Duffy’s effort was superbly kept out by Wanderers’ keeper Stephen McGuinness.

After the game Sentinel Sport’s Editor Kevin McLaughlin spoke to City skipper Cliff Byrne.
