Derry striker knows nothing about Linfield return

The striker, who left Windsor Park to join the Candystripes in 2012, was watched in Sunday’s FAI Cup Final defeat by Blues boss Warren Feeney.

Feeney, who took over from David Jeffrey in the summer and has endured a difficult start to his tenure, is looking to strengthen his squad in January, with Patterson believed to be one of his targets.

However, the Strabane man concedes he’s doesn’t know why the rumours have started.

“I don’t know anything about that,” he stated.

“I know Warren Feeney from being in Northern Ireland squads but having any links with Linfield is news to me.

“Obviously, I’m playing football and obviously, we got to the cup final this year but managers are managers and clubs are clubs so I can’t say what is going to happen, but as for Linfield rumours it’s complete news to me.”

Patterson, who netted 22 goals this year, also conceded that St Patrick’s Athletic deserved to win the cup and the season overall was a bad one.

“The best team probably won in the end and we can’t really complain,” he added.

“They were the better team and had more chances, they scored two and we scored none.

“Some people might say it was a good season, but myself, we have ended up with no silverware, so it’s not a personal thing for me, it’s all about winning trophies and obviously we have ended trophyless and had a bad league campaign, so it has probably been a bad season all round.”
