Silva is pure gold for Coleraine

Coleraine's overseas professional, Roshen Silva, has pipped Ballyspallen's Steven McCloskey to the North West's first '˜Performance of the Week' accolade.

Silva was the difference between the teams as the Bannsiders beat Strabane on Saturday; making a match-winning 85.

The Sri Lankan then also claimed a couple of wickets in the Red Caps’ reply, however it was only a catch that pushed his points tally past the ‘Spallen man in the final reckoning.

North West Administrator, David Bradley, explained the scoring system. “Players in all Long’s SuperValu North West leagues are awarded 1 point for a run and 20 points for a wicket, however they also get 10 points for a catch, stumping or run-out.

“That is why it is vital that scorecards are completed fully.”

Last Saturday, Steven scored 49 runs and took four wickets as his side beat Burndennett.

That gave him a total of 129 points. Roshen had 125 but the 10 he got for his catch nudged him ahead.”

“Johnny Havern at Sion Mills also fared well - five wickets for him helping him to 111 points for the week.”

“Although there is no specific prize for topping the weekly charts there will be a ‘Long’s SuperValu Player of the Month’ chosen each month using the points system as a guide.”

“That person will receive an award so it should help to keep things competitive in every division.”
