CRICKET: Beechgrove men add West Indies all rounder

A spokesman for the Waterside outfit said that the move was agreed in principal some time ago however they quite correctly wanted all the paperwork in place before unveiling their new man.

“We are delighted to announce the arrival of Danza at Brigade and are looking forward to working with a player of his quality this summer,” he said.

“Danza knows the North West cricket scene really well from his time with Killymallaght and retains all of his enthusiasm for the sport.

“He is a genuine all-rounder and no doubt his competitiveness will rub off on the rest of the squad.

“We feel Danza is a perfect fit for Brigade and his addition will hopefully ensure that we will be competing for honours again this season.”

Hyatt’s signing is a real statement from Brigade and the 31-year-old is probably the first genuine overseas professional they have recruited since the prolific Wajahatullah Wasti.

The Jamaican is still believed to harbour ambitions of playing representative cricket again and is sure to be a handful at a level where he has made a real mark in the past.

Danza will be joined in the region by Newbuildings’ Peat Salmon and Eglinton’s Oraine Williams, both of whom also play for the St Catherine’s club where Hyatt is skipper.

The signing probably propels the Beechgrove club into the role of title favourites for this summer.

Having also brought in David Barr from Bready and Ryan Macbeth from St Johnston there seems to be competition for places now on the Limavady Road as the big start looms large.

While Tawanda Mupariwa’s departure from Strabane may not be the end of Zimbabwean involvement there.

The Tyrone club have also enjoyed the services of Matthew Bentley and Tawanda in recent seasons.

It is understood that the club are currently involved in negotiations to bring a current high profile international from the country there for the current campaign.

There is conflicting debate within the club about the move due to budgetary constraints however, with a final decision expected in the coming days.

Creevedonnell are happy to announce the signing of highly recommended South African national under 17 rural coach Ralf Bogogo for the forthcoming season.

Ralf also plays premier league cricket for Vaal University and earlier this month won batsmen of the tournament at a competition in Kimberley. He is also a medium/quick opening bowler. The club also confirmed the return of former player Kris Dunn to the club in a development role.

The NWCU has released details of the 2016 Warriors’ Academy squad with 17 names listed in total; albeit 5 of the players involved are currently studying at University.

Ardmore have three players included, with siblings Conor and Ryan Brolly joined by batsman, Peter Harrigan. Dylan Waterstone and David Murdock from Brigade are also in as are Eglinton duo Jamie Millar and Andy Pierce, while Bready have a couple as well in Conor Olphert and Mattie Barr.

There are six Championship players named too - Aaron Heywood and Luke Hayes from Fox Lodge, Mark Pollock and Ross McCay from neighbouring Burndennett as well as St Johnston’s Nathan Cole and Stephen Kennedy from Ballyspallen. Another Jamie Millar - the Drummond one - also made the cut as did Aaron McDermott of Strabane. The squad is being managed by John Semple and will work alongside the senior Warriors side for the indoor sessions.
