LIMAVADY captain David Cooke was thrilled that he got one over his old club Brigade, to secure the prestigious Northern Bank Senior Cup, at rain drenched Eglinton, on Sunday.
The wicket-keeper scored an impressive 59 not out during the Roesiders second inning and was also thrilled to hit the winning runs.
"It has been a fantastic weekend for the entire team and to get that great innings myself, things couldn't have work
ed out any better," said Cooke.
"It was three days of hard cricket, with lots of rain intervals and because of that I would like to compliment the Eglinton grounds staff and the supporters for sticking with us."
Cooke while on 21 should have been run-out, but for some divine intervention, he found himself stranded 15 yards out of his crease but as the throw came to Stephen Smyth to complete the formalities of running him out, Smyth broke the wicket with his foot, and no-one had the foresight to lift a stump as Cooke scampered back over the line.
"To be honest I was fortunate to be still in to hit the winning runs but that's cricket.
"It could have went either way, but thankfully for me I hit a good knock of 59 not out and because of that I'm excited at the minute, however I feel the boys need a bit of praise for what they done all weekend."
This weekend Limavady entertain old rivals Donemana this Saturday, in what people are describing as a title decider.
"The league isn't over, we have a great team spirit at Limavady along with quality, so we know we can still win the league because of those two attributes.
"The most important thing on Sunday, was getting Decker back, he has some family problems at the minute, but hopefully they will start to get better.
"It's important that we stick together as a team and a club, that's what we are doing at the minute and things are going well because of it, however we need to keep going in our remaining league games."
