ONCE again the North West's junior players were out in force to contest the annual Vale Centre 5-a-side tournament during an extremely eventful day in Greysteel last week.
It was a battle between the 32 teams throughout the day with the 8 group winners eventually progressing to the quarter finals. During the knockout stages competition intensified with some entertaining football on show.
The semi finals saw Celtic B
ar take on West Bank United, while Frank and the Tanks squared off against Average Joes. Despite valiant efforts from their opponents it was Frank and the Tanks who would meet Celtic Bar in the 2009 Final.
Celtic Bar produced a super display in an exciting final winning by a solitary goal to clinch the trophy. Other awards went to Average Joe’s Eddie Bell for top scorer, Leroy’s Legends for fair play and Celtic Bar’s Sean Martin for player of the tournament.
Again the tournament proved to be a fine spectacle for junior footballers with lots of twists and turns along the way.
Much thanks must be given to all our sponsors and especially Braidwater Ltd as the main sponsor and great appreciation is extended to all those who worked hard during the build up and on the day of the competition.
The next big event at the Vale Centre will be the Ladies 5-a-side competition which will take place on Saturday.
