THE race for the Division 2 title in the Billy Henderson North West league was muddied still further after a weekend that saw previous leaders Ardmore lose a thriller at home to Creevedonnell who moved into contention themselves as a result whilst St Johnston and Killyclooney also took advantage.
Bonds Glen won a fantastic match at The Nedd to make it two wins in as many days and Sion Mills recorded their first points of the season beating North Fermanagh.

Ardmore went into their home game at Creevedonnell in pretty good shape and got off
to a decent start with Adrian Murphy (39), Paul McDowell (33), Ger McAuley (33) and Ger Brolly (26) all chipping in. Unfortunately for the Bleachgreen side however the lower order was less prolific and a total of 219 was the sum of their collective efforts.

Charlie Elder returned with a vengeance to his former club to record figures of 5 for 22 while Raymond Gibson claimed 3 for 34. The McGarrigle boys, Ellis (27) and Leighton (33) laid a good platform for the visitors before Dessie McCourt with 3 for 39 and Ger Brolly and Ger McAuley with 2 wickets apiece looked to have set Ardmore on course for another win. Skipper Brian Dougherty had other ideas however and he found just enough support around him to take it down to the wire and although Ardmore were sure they had won the match with a late run out, the Creevedonnell man survived to help his side over the line. Dougherty’s unbeaten 57 was an excellent knock and leaves his side just 2 points off the pace with a game in hand, the irony being that they were completing their first Saturday game of the season with no fixtures scheduled for next week!

St Johnston kept themselves at the summit with a straightforward win at home to a so far disappointing Burndennett side. Philip Kelly made 42 and Stephen Henderson 26 as the visitors reached 84 for 1 before coming apart at the seams. Conan Pollock with 24 not out, batting at number 10 restored some respectability but 126 all out was average enough in the circumstances. Andrew Fleming’s 5 for 16 was easily the pick of the bowling and the skipper then swapped ball for bat to ensure a decisive win for the Donegal men. Fleming made an unbeaten 67 in an 8 wicket win that sees the Saints join Ardmore on 12 points, with a game less played.

Also moving on to the 12 point mark are Killyclooney, Ken Colhoun’s team wasting little time in thumping Drummond after last week’s massive score at Sion. This time, despite a superb effort from skipper Craig Hartin who made 75, Killyclooney were set a modest 133. Last week’s hero, Dean McCarter, showed he is useful with the ball as well claiming 4 for 10 whilst brother Graeme added 2 for 18 although cricket being the game that it is, the former followed up his record breaking innings last week by making just 2 this time.

Alan Colhoun scored an unbeaten 71 however and Andy Lynch 55 not out as Killyclooney recovered to post a facile 9 wicket win.

Elsewhere in the league Bonds Glen edged out The Nedd in a cracking game at Ballykelly, the visitors making 216 all out aided by 45 from Colin Hall, 42 from Roy Robinson and 41 from Willie Jackson.
