TEENAGER Edward Allingham from Eglinton was crowned the MXY2 motocross champion in the final race of the four round series at Brampton, on Sunday.
The 17-year-old went into the last round with a 13 point lead over Englishman Josh Waterman. He showed his determination to win the Championship from the outset, setting pole position by over a second in qualifying.
Allingham won the first race leaving him going into the final race of the championship with an advantage of 18 points; with 25 points for a win there was still everything to play for. After an eventful race which had Allingham coming through the field from a bad start and crashing out he managed to finish in fifth position leaving him winning the Championship by 12 points.
The delighted Waterside teenager said: "I am so pleased to have won this championship hopefully it's the first of many British titles for me.
"I would like to thank all my sponsors especially Paul and Claire from PAR Honda, Colin Nicholl of Nicholl Fuels, John Lloyd from O'Neal, Mickey Kerr, John Doherty, my mechanics Johnny and James and my Dad and Gail for all their help."
