East Londonderry MP Gregory Campbell has received confirmation of the news from Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service that Limavady will receive a new fire station.

Mr Campbell said: "Following representations from Limavady constituents regarding future facilities for the fire service in the town I wrote to the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue asking for an update on the progress towards a new fire station."
In response the Acting Chief Fire Officer commented: " I can confirm that a new Fire Station for Limavady is contained within our Fire Station Replacement Programme for the next 10-15 years. A number of sites in the Limavady area are being explored in terms of site suitability. It is our intention to progress work towards the replacement of a Fire Station in Limavady within 2011-2014 period contingent upon funds being made available to progress the project."
He concluded: " the replacement of Fire Stations across Northern Ireland continues to be a high priority for NIFRS and I will keep you appraised of developments in relation to a replacement Station in Limavady."
Mr Campbell continued: "This is good news that the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service has confirmed that a number of sites for a new fire station in Limavady is being pursued. It is essential that Limavady and the Roe Valley area has first class fire cover and I look
forward to in the future to the construction of a new station which meets this need."
