FOUR brave children from the Limavady Borough have been recognised at the twenty-ninth annual William Keown Trust Awards for personal achievement, which were held in the Europa Hotel, Belfast on Thursday June 12.
Jordan McLaughlin, 10, (Limavady), Lauren Middleton (Feeny), Hollie Carton, 8, (Greysteel) and Stuart Meenagh, 7, (Banagher) all received Children of Courage Awards at the ceremony.
The famous four were joined by over three hundred guests including
Mayor Brenda Chivers as well as council chairmen and other dignitaries from all over the province at the ceremony.
Mrs Chivers said the bravery and resilience demonstrated by all four provided a lesson to all.
"I travelled up to Belfast for the ceremony and I have to say my heart went out to all of them. I would like to pay tribute to all four of the children and their families.
"They have shown so much courage to cope with their individual disabilities and yet still to see the little smiles on their faces is an inspiration," said the Mayor.
Whilst all four children were presented with Children of Courage certificates, Jordan also lifted the Ironside Cup, one of three special trophies in the Children of Courage category.
The Trust Chief Executive Bill Keown and the directors said they were delighted with the sixty-seven nominations that had been received and said they had been looking forward to highlighting once again how people with disabilities have conquered the various difficulties and challenges they face.
