Work of Eglinton group to feature on prime time TV this Saturday
THE work of a Londonderry organisation that provides creative space for adults with learning difficulties will feature on the television at the weekend.
The inspirational work of Achieving Something Special based in Eglinton will be shown on BBC One this Saturday, October 6, as the nation votes for its favourite National Lottery Good Causes.
Achieving Something Special provide a creative space for adults with learning disabilities to work and showcase their creative arts talent.
It is competing against two other Lottery-funded projects to amass the highest number of votes to win a coveted trophy for Best Arts Project and a £2,000 prize.
Denise White of Achieving Something Special said: “We’re delighted to have reached the finals of The National Lottery Awards and it’s a superb acknowledgement for our staff and volunteers.
“At Achieving Something Special, National Lottery funding has not only built a creative space for adults with learning disabilities to work but also a welcoming community.
“It has become an important part of the lives of people who can often feel isolated and excluded from the arts, education and society.
“To appear on national TV is very exciting and it will help raise the awareness of what projects such as ours can achieve.”
There are seven categories in the National Lottery Awards that reflect the main areas of Lottery funding: arts, sport, heritage, health, environment, education and voluntary/charity.
The public are able to vote for their favourite projects in these categories until Sunday, October 28, 2012 at www.lotterygoodcauses.org.uk/awards.
The winners will be celebrated at a special star-studded show on BBC One later in the year.
