A LONDONDERRY teenager who punched a female PSNI officer in the face has been fined £150 for assault.
Stephen Kelly, 19, from Bellevue Avenue in the city, appeared at Limavady Magistrates Court yesterday where he was also convicted of disorderly behaviour and resisting a police officer. All offences were committed on November 25, 2012.
Police were on foot patrol in the Catherine Street area that evening when they saw two men fighting in the middle of the road.
When officers intervened to break up the fight, Kelly punched the officer in the face. It was a single punch to the officer’s cheekbone, forcing her backwards. She was not injured, the court heard.
Kelly subsequently struggled violently and resisted.
The court heard the student had consumed a lot of alcohol, and had since apologised.
In addition to the fine for assault, Kelly was bound over to keep the peace for 18 months in the sum of £500.
