Prehen singer-songwriter SOAK won album of the year at the Choice Music awards at Vicar Street on Thursday, where she was congratulated by U2 bass player Adam Clayton.

‘Before We Forgot How To Dream,’ which was released on Rough Trade last year, beat off top quality competition from Róisín Murphy, Colm Mac Con Iomaire, Jape, Le Galaxie, Girl Band, Young Wonder, Villagers and Ham Sandwich.

Following her triumph she tweeted: “Can’t describe how overwhelmed I am to have won Choice prize album of the year. Thank you so much.”

She received 10,000 euros, a prize provided by the Irish Music Rights Organisation (IMRO) and the Irish Recorded Music Association (IRMA).

Following the Londonderry artist’s success, Dublin rock band U2 tweeted their congratulations via a photo of SOAK with her award alongside Mr Clayton.
