One of Londonderry’s proudest glasses wearers is a step closer to winning a ‘Spectacle Wearer of the Year Award’ with a grand prize of £10,000 and a luxury holiday in the Bahamas.
Sean McEleney, aged 27, was chosen from hundreds of entries from across Northern Ireland.
Known as the Oscars of the glasses world, the awards celebrate specs wearers from the UK and Republic of Ireland, across four age categories: 15-24; 25-39; 40-59 and 60 plus.
The awards were launched by Girls Aloud singer and West End star Kimberley Walsh earlier this year.
The awards will be held at London’s 8 Northumberland Avenue on October 7.
All age category winners will win a VIP makeover, with one overall winner taking home the ultimate accolade in specs wearing.
Mr McEleney is one of eight regional finalist chosen within Northern Ireland and is one of two finalists for the 25-39 age category.
Maeve Walsh, store director, Ferryquay Street Specsavers, said: “We would like to wish Mr McEleney all the very best for the final round of judging. It is such a great achievement to have reached the final eight within Northern Ireland. Mr McEleney really wears his Specsavers glasses well.”
