THE body of missing Limavady man Alexander McKee has been found by his family, after he went missing from the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine.

The McKee family identified the body as that of the 56-year-old. He was last seen alive on Sunday, December 23 at the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine where he was receiving treatment for breathing difficulties.

His family and friends have been involved in searches for him in the Coleraine area since Christmas Eve, and had appealed for anyone who might know something as to his whereabouts to get in touch.

Earlier on Sunday (December 23), police held a press conference in Coleraine, attended by his family. They also staged a reconstruction of Mr McKee’s last known movements. Up to 40 police officers were deployed to help with the search.

Alex McKee’s body was found by his family on Sunday, December 30, exactly one week after he had gone missing from the hospital. He was found in an industrial estate close to the Newbridge Road in Coleraine.

A police spokesperson said: “The family of Limavady man Alex McKee, who has been missing since Sunday, December 23, have found the body of a man in an industrial estate close to the Newbridge Road in Coleraine.

“The family have initially identified the body as that of Alex. The death is not believed to be suspicious at this stage. Police investigating the disappearance of Mr McKee would like to offer their condolences to the family of Mr McKee.”
