The Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) gratefully acknowledges the work of pupils and staff from Limavady High School who have donated knitted baby garments to the Neonatal Unit at the South West Acute Hospital.

Joan Cunningham, Neonatal Unit Sister expressed her sincere thanks to Barbara Semple and the pupils from Limavady High School, she said: “These knitted garments are very useful for our premature babies in the Unit to keep them warm and we very much appreciate the effort of pupils and staff from Limavady High School for generously using their free time during the summer holidays to make such beautiful garments.”

Mrs Barbara Semple, Limavady High School Child Development Teacher said: “Our Year 11 pupils generously made use of their free time over the summer term to learn how to knit and develop forgotten skills with their family members and so strengthen communication and time spent with others. This was so successful that staff, including teaching, cleaners and kitchen staff all joined in. The knitting task was developed to think about others and broaden their outlook to life. The two classes (30 pupils) were taught how to knit by Mrs McGuire and I, and then encouraged to continue this at home. The knitting was focused on producing jumpers, hats, cardigans, blankets, bootees and mittens for premature babies and we are delighted to donate these garments to the Neonatal Unit at the South West Acute Hospital.”
