Clergy from Limavady and other areas such as Coleraine at a Peace III conference in Portrush

Clergy from Limavady and other areas such as Coleraine at a Peace III conference in Portrush

LOCAL clergy from Limavady took part in a peace building project in Portrush alongside clergy from Coleraine, Moyle, Ballymoney, Ballymena, and Larne.

This unique project is funded under the European Union’s PEACE III programme and is managed on behalf of the Special EU Programmes Body by the North East PEACE III Partnership.

The project aims to work with 30 individual members of the clergy to promote opportunities for cross denominational collaboration. It will offer opportunities for clergy from different denominations to work together on projects with their congregations to promote tolerance and respect for others. Community Change, delivery agents for the project, aim to empower the group to provide leadership within their churches, the wider community and to help build and develop sustainable peace in the North East.

Commenting at the launch of the project, North East PEACE III Partnership member Patricia Crossley expressed how delighted she was to be launching this exciting project and added “My hope is that this project will challenge us to engage wholeheartedly with each other and share our experiences, resulting in the realisation that we can work together to fulfil the future vision of PEACE III”.

Over the next 9 months the capacity of participating clergy in peace building will be developed and enhanced through mentoring support and facilitation provided within the project. Opportunities and space for sharing, learning, engagement and collaboration will also be provided to maximise the peace building opportunities available through this project.
