AN exciting opportunity to travel to Belgium and take part in the Messines Experience has arisen, thanks to the vision of the North East PEACE III Partnership.

Limavady Community Cohesion Project will take 20 participants to visit the site of the Battle of Messine Ridge where, in 1917, soldiers from the Nationalist 16th Irish Division and Unionist 36th Ulster Division, who despite their religious and cultural differences fought and died together on the same battlefield.

During this visit participants will also complete a conflict resolution programme accredited to OCN Level 1.

The Limavady Community Cohesion Project aims to exploit the potential for mutual understanding, respect for differences and reconciliation through remembering.

It also aims to build positive relations between all participants on the project from both Catholic and Protestant communities. The project is funded by the European Union’s PEACE III Programme which is managed on behalf of the Special EU Programmes Body by the North East PEACE III Partnership.

This trip is open, in the first instance, to those who sit on the Cohesion Panel. Not everyone who is on the Panel will necessarily be eligible to go on the trip.

It is also open to community and voluntary leaders and representatives and we are calling for all those interested to fill in an expression of interest form.

At this stage the trip is anticipated for three nights, from March 21 - 24, 2013.

There is no cost to participate but the selected group must attend a one day pre-departure session and an evaluation session post-departure.

If you are interested please submit an expression of interest form to Cohesion Officer Hollie Brown at hollie.brown@limavady.gov.uk or to Hollie Brown, Limavady Borough Council, 7 Connell Street, Limavady, BT49 0HA.

Expression of interest forms are available on www.limavady.gov.uk or by contacting Hollie Brown on 028 777 60304.

The deadline for submissions is Monday, February 4, 2013.
