Private contractors got £114,258 of the £1,611,544 raised through parking tickets at Western Trust hospital car parks over the past five years, it’s been revealed.

That’s seven per cent of the takings.

The amount of money raised from Western Health and Social Care Trust car parks rose each year from 2010/11 to 2014/15.

In fact it more than doubled over the five years from £116,049 to £312,872.

The amount received by private contractors varied between £20,348 and £24,034 and actually fell over the five years.

The figures relate to car park management costs that were paid to external contractors by the Western Trust.

Health Minister Simon Hamilton provided the details in response to an Assembly Question.
