Poots won’t be drawn on removal of Altnagelvin services

HEALTH Minister Edwin Poots refused to detail which health care services would be moved from Altnagelvin to Belfast within the next decade.

Mr Poots was quizzed on the possibility by Londonderry MLA Colum Eastwood.

He said it was a matter for the Health and Social Care Board (HSCB).

Mr Eastwood asked which “services, currently delivered in Altnagelvin Hospital, are expected to move to Belfast within the next ten years.”

Mr Poots replied: “The decision on where services are most appropriately delivered to meet the needs of any population is taken by the Health and Social Care Board in its role as Commissioner of health services.

“It is not possible to identify, at this time, what future proposals the Board may make concerning the movement and location of services.”
