The Australian, whose father John emigrated from Inishowen, recently claimed his third Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) World Title in Hawaii.

Speaking about his Malin roots he stated: “My parents being Irish were very loyal people, very honest. That’s one thing I try to be. If I have a friend I will be with them to the death. That’s the way it is. The way you have to roll.”

He won his third world title in Oahu, which isn’t far from where Londonderry native James Campbell settled with his Hawaiian princess wife in the 19th century.
