The DUP has confirmed this morning, Wednesday, that Gary Middleton is to be co-opted to Stormont to serve the Foyle constituency.

In a brief statement this morning, Mr Middleton confirmed that he had received written confirmation from Party headquarters that he is to replace Maurice Devenney, who has opted to serve on the new Derry City and Strabane District Council, which went ‘live’ today.

Speaking to The Sentinel, Mr Middletown said: “I can now confirm that I have been selected as the candidate to serve Foyle constituency in Stormont. I would like to pay tribute to both Maurice Devenney and his predecessor William Hay for their sterling service, and look forward to giving the people in the Foyle constituency a voice in the Assembly chamber.”
