Foyle DUP MLA Gary Middleton has welcomed the DRD Minister’s announcement that the A6 upgrade will go ahead with work on the Randlestown to Castledawson section beginning later this year.

The Assembly Private Secretary to the DRD Minister Michelle McIlveen said: “The announcement by the Minister is very welcome news. It will be welcomed by all who want to see greater economic growth in the North West with improved infrastructure and connectivity between Northern Ireland’s two largest cities.

“This project has been talked about for many years however it is now becoming a reality. Thankfully Minister McIlveen has now pushed the A6 project further forward and secured funding in the recent budget agreed by the Executive for 2016/17.

“I look forward to seeing progress over the coming months on the Randlestown to Castledawson section and on the remaining sections of the A6, particularly the development of a dual carriageway by-pass at Dungiven.”
