Two bombs foundon the Highmoor

Two bombs have been recovered in the Highmoor area outside Londonderry with police investigating whether they belong to dissident republicans.

The two pipe bombs were recovered on the Highmoor Road.

Chief Inspector Gordon McCalmont said: “These devices were viable and I welcome the fact that we have discovered them and made them safe.

“One line of enquiry is that these devices are connected to violent dissident Republican terrorism. While there are a small minority who are intent to cause terror in our community, this operation shows that police remain committed to keeping people safe and we will continue to work tirelessly to do so.

“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the Highmoor Road area yesterday or in recent days to contact us on the non-emergency number 101.

“Alternatively, information can also be given anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
