The defendant, who cannot be named because of his age, pleaded guilty to arson of an office block on Loughermore Road, Limavady, on February 7, well as burglary with intent to steal and attempted criminal damage.

Sentencing was adjourned for a Youth Conference Report to be compiled.

Londonderry Youth Court Judge, Barney McElholm, was told he did not have any previous convictions.

District Judge McElholm also granted an application to vary the 17-year-old’s bail conditions.

He currently resides at a local hotel and this was amended to allow him to reside at any address approved by the Western Trust.

There was also an application to vary conditions relating to the supervision of the defendant.

At the moment, the teenager must remain in school until 5pm and be under the supervision of a staff member from the Trust until 9pm.

The judge adjourned this aspect of the application for the investigating officer to attend and give the police attitude.

The teenager was released on continuing bail to appear in court again on June 28.

The sentencing has been adjourned until August 16.
