Caolan Lang (19), of Northland Road, pleaded guilty to common assault on April 24. The assault was described as a ‘hate crime’ and sentencing was adjourned for a probation pre-sentence report to be compiled.

The Magistrates Court heard the assault was being prosecuted as a hate crime as a result of something the 19-year-old said to the injured party.

Lang was released on continuing bail to appear in court again on June 24. He was banned from contacting the injured party and from having any contact with the residents or staff of Jefferson Court.
