A street drinker has appeared before Londonderry Magistrates Court charged with public order offences

The Court heard that Damien Mahoney (50), of John Street, made an obscene gesture and became verbally aggressive towards police.

He pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on May 12 and was fined £200. The Court heard he made an obscene gesture and shouted to police on patrol and when they asked him to moderate his behaviour he said “Oh, for f*** sake, you’re always f****** hassling me’.

Seamus Quigley, defending, said his client has been a street drinker for 20 years.
