The Police Federation for Northern Ireland has welcomed the appointment of George Hamilton as the new Chief Constable of the PSNI.
PFNI Chairman, Terry Spence QPM, said: “George Hamilton knows only too well the extent of the challenges we face. His wealth of experience will be invaluable and, as the staff association that represents the rank and file, I would like to assure him that we stand ready and able to assist him in whatever way we can to deliver a comprehensive policing service to our entire community.
“We look forward to a productive and professional relationship where we can articulate the concerns of our members and hopefully receive support for the suggestions we offer.
“We will seek an early meeting with Mr Hamilton to set out our immediate concerns on the numerical strength of the PSNI, which is about 1,000 short of a peacetime minimum, and the need for clear and timely decisions to deal with volatile and highly dangerous street disorder situations.”
