Five dead in 24 hours of road carnage

Five people lost their lives in an appalling 24 hours of road carnage in Letterkenny over Wednesday and Thursday, July 27 and 28.

After the deaths of two men, named locally as Barney McGinley and Dermot Boyle, in a head-on collision with a van on the main Letterkenny to Londonderry Road, near Trimragh, in the early hours of Wednesday, a further two men and a woman were killed in another crash near Drumkeen in the early hours of this morning.

A further man was seriously injured and has been taken to hospital in Letterkenny.

Gardaí said that at approximately 1am this morning July 28 two cars were involved in a collision in an area known as Corravaddy approximately four miles from Letterkenny.

Three persons (two males and one female) were pronounced dead at the scene and another male was seriously injured and has been taken to Letterkenny University Hospital.

The scene is currently closed to traffic and diversions are in place. Garda forensic collision investigators have been requested to examine the scene and the local coroner has been notified.
