Bettors punting on '˜Remain' in last days of EU referendum campaign

Bettors have been overwhelmingly punting on the United Kingdom voting to '˜Remain' in Europe in the final days of the election campaign with '˜Brexit' drifting out again to 3/1 with the bookies.

Both BoyleSports and Paddy Power, for example, now have ‘Remain’ at 1/4 and Brexit at 3/1.

The betting mirrors a recent rally in Sterling, which has also been evident in the run-up to Thursday’s poll.

According to Aoife Heffron of BoyleSports: “The Brexit vote is almost upon the UK public and as they prepare to have their say, punters continue to have theirs.

“The influx of bets overnight have all been for the UK to stay within the EU at 1/4 and it is now a very large five-figure liability for BoyleSports.”

She added: “England football supporters and ‘stay’ supporters can avail of a special market that sees the UK to stay in the EU and England to win the Euros priced at 14/1. Ireland will be closely affected by the outcome of the UK EU membership referendum, but regardless of the result it is 20/1 that we will face a similar referendum in 2025.”

The books are further suggestions of a swing back towards the ‘Remain’ camp, which has also been in evidence in the polls and on the money markets.

Tomorrow, the people decide.
