Youth to get peace money

LONDONDERRY youth groups are being invited to apply for a tranche of EU peace money to fund projects that makes positive statements about young people’s self-identity and address racism and sectarianism in society.

If you are 11-25 years old and part of a youth group, school group or sporting organisation you can apply for the Western Education and Library Board’s (WELB) Youth Service roll-out.

WELB has received funding from the North West Peace III Cluster of Londonderry, Strabane and Omagh District Councils to promote Peace and Reconciliation Initiatives.

WELB aims to do this by supporting projects which raise awareness of sectarianism and/or racism, or which develop programmes that address issues relating to sectarianism and/or racism. It is hoped that by encouraging young people to apply for this funding that we will encourage exciting, innovative, fresh, and fun programmes.

Two Information Events will be held to support applicants which will take place at the following venues: Londonderry Youth Office, 40 Dungiven Road on Tuesday 20 November from 6.00 – 7.00pm and Omagh Boys and Girls Club, James Street on Wednesday 21 November from 6.30 - 7.30pm. Closing date for applications will be Monday 26 November 2012.

For further information, or to obtain an application form, please contact Jennie Nugent, WELB Youth Office, 1 Hospital Road, Omagh, BT79 0AW, telephone (028) 8241 1487 or via email: jennie.nugent@welbni.org.
