Young People's Convention for Kilfennan Presbyterian Church

THE Young People's Convention which has been a fixture on the Christian calendar in the city for over seventy years will be held from Wednesday 7 to Sunday the 11, January and will have a new look this year.

Having met in recent years in Kilfennan Presbyterian Church the Convention will be held this year in the magnificent new Lisneal College on the Crescent Link. The "Source" coffee bar where the young people can chill out after the convention meeting also has a new venue – Starbucks which is within a five minute walk of the College.

The main speaker this year will be Freddie McClaughlin who was a former trainee at Manchester United where he had the privilege of cleaning George Best's boots. He recently became Pastor of Ballymena Baptist Church following a successful ministry in Newtownbreda Baptist Church in Belfast where he regularly had over 300 young people in his Sunday evening congregation. Freddie is a dynamic speaker who has the ability to relate well to all age groups, is really looking forward to his visit to the city and will have as his theme for the week "Living with Reality". The Praise will be led by the popular group Mr. Jag led by Andrew Lamberton

The ever popular ladies coffee morning will be held in the Broomhill Hotel on Thursday, 4th January at 10.30 p.m. and the speakers will be Freddie's wife Linda who lectures in Belfast Bible College and their daughter Sharon who is studying theology in the Unites States.

John Magowan, the Convention Chairman is excited about the plans for 2009 and says "we have an excellent overall package this year with something for people of all ages. Freddie is a superb communicator whose sincere, down to earth approach will relate well to his audiences; the worship led by local group Mr. Jag will have a contemporary flavour while the proximity and the availability of Starbucks will enable the young folk to bring each evening to an end in pleasant relaxed surroundings. Attending the "YPC" is an ideal way to start the New Year and I would urge as many as possible to come along."
