US billionaire funds interface school scheme
A LONDONDERRY education initiative funded by US billionaire Chuck Feeney and targeting local pupils including those attending Lisneal College and Lisnagelvin and Ebrington Primary Schools will receive share of a total investment of £4m over the next two years.
The Foyle Contests Space Programme is amongst five projects to receive joint support from Mr Feeney’s Atlantic Philanthropies organisation and the Office of First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM).
The Londonderry project includes three post-primary and five primary schools in city. The schools are Lisneal College, St Cecilia’s College, St Mary’s College, Ballougry Primary School, Ebrington Primary School, Lisnagelvin Primary School, Holy Child Primary School and St. John’s Primary School.
A further ‘Faces and Spaces’ scheme described as an Early Years approach to good relations and which builds community-led shared partnerships in interface areas in the Waterside/Cityside and Castlederg/Newtownstewart is also receiving funding from Atlantic Philanthropies.
Alliance MLA Chris Lyttle asked the OFMDFM Ministers Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness to give details of the aims, objectives and projects delivered by the Atlantic Philanthropies match funded Contested Space Programme.
The Ministers revealed the two North West schemes were amongst those supported.
