Trust has no fracture care

THE Western Trust is currently recruiting specialist nurses to re-establish a follow up service for Osteoporosis sufferers who have broken bones and who are at risk of secondary fractures.

Health Minister Edwin Poots said the action was being taken in response to a recommendation made by the Fragility Fracture Working Group.

A report by the group said “fracture liaison services for secondary prevention of fragility fractures should be established in all Trusts that have A&E and Minor Injury Services to ensure secondary prevention is offered to all patients who have suffered a fragility fracture.”

The Minister said: “The Western Trust is recruiting specialist nurses to re-establish their service as soon as possible.”
