The Planter and the Gael - what does it mean today?
LOCAL councils in the North West are teaming up to examine the influence of the plantation in Londonderry and Donegal this summer.
As part of The Planter and the Gael Project, Donegal County Museum and Derry City Council Heritage and Museum Service are hosting a seminar titled
The Plantation of Ulster – What Does It Mean To Us Now? on Thursday, July 1 in the An Grianan Hotel, Burt.
Speakers include Dr Eamonn O'Ciardha, Academy of Irish Cultural Heritages, University of Ulster at Magee.
Groups from Donegal and Londonderry have participated in this project and their digital stories will be presented at the seminar.
Participants will also have an opportunity to discuss the legacy of the Plantation and to suggest ways in which it can be commemorated.
The Planter and The Gael is a joint between Donegal County Museum and Derry City Council Heritage and Museum Service.
This project aims to increase awareness of the Plantation and its impact on both Donegal and Londonderry.
