Sole EU chief visit was to Londonderry

ONLY one European Commissioner condescended to visit Northern Ireland in 2011 when Regional Policy Commissioner Johannes Hahne visited the outermost periphery of the union to open the Londonderry Peace Bridge.

Foyle MLA Colum Eastwood asked the First Minister and Deputy First Minister (OFMDFM) to detail the number of visits by European Commissioners to Northern Ireland in 2011.

In a joint statement Peter Robinson and Martin McGuinness stated: “In 2011 there was one visit, by Mr Johannes Hahn, the Commissioner for Regional Policy, who opened the Peace Bridge in Derry/Londonderry on June 25, 2011.”
