editorial image

Police in Foyle will be clamping down on businesses that facilitate illegal gaming on their premises.

The warning follows a number of complaints from members of the public regarding gaming machines in the City.

Gaming machines are not permitted in fast food outlets, video hire shops, shops and taxi offices. They are permitted in registered clubs, pubs, amusement arcades and bingo clubs.

Area Commander Chief Inspector Jon Burrows said: “Excuses won’t be accepted. Local retailers should be fully aware of the legislation surrounding gaming machines. If not, they should make it their business to know. A number of planned operations are expected to take place over the next few months and officers will actively be inspecting premises. I suggest that retailers use this time to get their business in order otherwise they could face prosecution.”
