Plant a native tree around amenity site
LONDONDERRY folk are being asked to come along to the Claudy Household Recycling Centre on January 12, to plant a native tree and help create wildlife hedges around the newly constructed amenity site.
They are invited to ‘Bring a Tree and Plant a Tree,’ from 1pm to 3pm and take the opportunity to bring your old Christmas tree for recycling. Equipment and hot drinks will be provided but participants are asked to dress for the weather and if possible wear sturdy footwear e.g. walking boots.
Mayor Kevin Campbell said: “I would encourage people to come along to the Claudy Recycling Centre and help Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership reach their target of increasing the woodland cover in the area.
“Derry City Council is delighted to support this initiative and I would like to take the opportunity to highlight that the partnership is keen to hear from members of the public. So if you know of areas that could be revitalised through this initiative get in touch.”
Faughan Valley Landscape Partnership Free Tree Packs are also available for schools and community groups. These native tree packs funded by Heritage Lottery Fund through Woodland Trust.
