REPORTS have emerged of a shooting incident in Londonderry last night, (Sunday, June 28).

A 26-year-old man was shot three times by a man who called to his Florence Street home at around midnight, in the Rosemount district.

Police say they investigating a motive for the attack.

SDLP councillor, Helen Quigley, who is from the area condemned what she described as a "paramilitary style" shooting.

"Whatever this was about or whatever issues face the community, attacks of this nature are not justifiable.

"I wou;d appeal to the local community to send out a clear message to those responsible that they have absolutely no support and they must not let this type of behaviour get any sort of foothold.

"I would ask anyone with information to contact the police as a matter of urgency," she said.

SDLP leader Mark Durkan also spoke out against the attack.

He said: "I strongly condemn this despicable and cowardly attack.

"There must be no doubt that the community totally rejects the perpetrator of this callous crime.

"I urge anyone with information about this attack to immediately contact the PSNI so that the perpetrator can be brought to justice."
