Man shot in Rosemount
REPORTS have emerged of a shooting incident in Londonderry last night, (Sunday, June 28).
A 26-year-old man was shot three times by a man who called to his Florence Street home at around midnight, in the Rosemount district.
The gunman directed the shots through the door of the premises hitting the victim twice in one leg and once in the foot of the other leg.
The man's injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The gunman ran off after the incident.
The Sentinel understands that a 4-year-old child was present in the house at the time.
Police say they investigating a motive for the attack.
SDLP councillor, Helen Quigley, who is from the area condemned what she described as a "paramilitary style" shooting.
"Whatever this was about or whatever issues face the community, attacks of this nature are not justifiable.
"I wou;d appeal to the local community to send out a clear message to those responsible that they have absolutely no support and they must not let this type of behaviour get any sort of foothold.
"I would ask anyone with information to contact the police as a matter of urgency," she said.
SDLP leader Mark Durkan also spoke out against the attack.
He said: "I strongly condemn this despicable and cowardly attack.
"There must be no doubt that the community totally rejects the perpetrator of this callous crime.
"We had all hoped that this type of attack had been consigned to history.
"I urge anyone with information about this attack to immediately contact the PSNI so that the perpetrator can be brought to justice."
