Gay adoption ruling welcomed

THE British Association for Adoption & Fostering Northern Ireland (BAAF) has welcomed the High Court’s ruling that it is unlawful to prevent unmarried and same-sex couples in civil partnerships being approved to adopt in Northern Ireland.

A spokesperson said: “It is hoped the judgement will bring adoption eligibility criteria in NI into line with the rest of the UK by allowing couples who are unmarried and in same sex partnerships to apply to adopt, increasing the pool of available adopters for children waiting for adoption in NI.”
