Fallen wall application

A LONDONDERRY homeowner has applied for permission to replace a 50 foot retaining wall that collapsed during torrential rain in the city in 2011.

The wall at Harding Street collapsed in December 2011 just days after another wall in the Marlborough Terrace area disintegrated during inclement weather.

At the time residents living near the wall said children could have been hurt or killed.

A spokesman for Derry City Council said at the time: “The Council has intervened to try to facilitate between as many people as possible, and give residents some reassurance there is someone acting on their behalf.”

The near disasters occurred during a spell of particularly heavy rain just over a year ago.

Planners received the application for the “replacement of the collapsed boundary retaining wall” on January 7.
