A SPONSORED walk of Londonderry’s two bridges will take place on Friday inspired by Ebrington Primary School pupil Millie Slater who lives with a rare brain disorder that in some cases induces fever, fatigue, headache, nausea and vomiting, and in the most severe cases, seizures and coma.
Lorna Logan, Fiona Hamilton and Dee Logan have organised the walk in order to raise money for a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scanner.
The fundraiser was inspired by Millie’s tale of survival from the often debilitating illness Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis (ADEM).
The Ebrington PS pupil (pictured with parents David and Sharon Slater) successfully completed an MRI scanning programme at the Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children when suffering a severe attack of ADEM.
Lorna explained: “Millie suffered a rare illness that manifests itself from Meningitis called ADEM). She also almost lost her sight due to Optic Neuritis and a rare brain disorder.”
“The Royal Victoria Hospital for Sick Children in Belfast is the only Childrens Hospital in UK with no MRI scanner.
“And because this where Millie was treated we are doing a sponsored walk on Friday, April 27 meeting at 10.30am at Ebrington Primary school to walk two bridges,” she said.
Mille and her classmates will be at the school on Friday to wave the walkers on.
