Crook sold water bottles as laptop
POLICE in Londonderry are advising members of the public to beware of scamsters after a man was sold two bottles of water in a laptop case by a crook driving a red car in the city centre last week.
The incident occured in the Foyle Street area on Tuesday, August 21.
At approximately 2.30pm a male in a red car offered a member of the public a number of laptops, iPhones, and iPads for sale.
The man handed over a sum of money for the items and was handed a laptop case that contained only two bottles of water. The car then made off.
Police urged the local community to be vigilant against all types of scams, particularly where you may be offered items for sale under suspicious circumstances.
Purchasing goods from shops and premises offers consumers’ protection - when you buy from unknown sources you have no protection.
If you are approached by someone on the street offering goods for sale that appear too good to be true, they probably are.
Fraudsters come in many guises and their ability to practice new frauds is infinite and everyone should be alert to this.
Keep yourself protected and only buy from reputable sources.
Anyone who has information should contact police at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000.
