Between 2007 and 2011 crime in the jail more than quadrupled.

There have been a total of 81 crimes reported to the police over the past five years regarding damage caused at the jail by destructive inmates.

And the amount of criminal damage has been on the rise since 2007 when only six crimes were reported.

This rose to 15 in 2008 and 22 in 2009. Although the amount of criminal damage in the jail decreased to 12 in 2010 it spiked again to 26 last year.

Across the entire Northern Ireland Prison Service (NIPS) estate there were a staggering 1,262 crimes reported regarding damage at local jails.

Justice Minister David Ford said just one prisoner was convicted as a result although dozens of cases are with the Public Prosecution Service (PPS).
