City to tout for ‘peace’ trips during 2013

LONDONDERRY good relations officer Sue Divin says she’s been aware for some time that ‘peace-based’ residentials and trips are often focused on Belfast and Dublin but 2013 will be used to showcase the city as a perfect location for such trips.

She said: “It seemed highly appropriate in 2013 to showcase this city as a perfect place for Good Relations trips.”

She made the comments as the local authority launched ‘Essentials For Residentials,’ an initiative to highlight the opportunities for bringing groups to Londonderry to engage in good relations/history and culture based residential’s and day trips.

“We hope that the initiative will not only promote reconciliation, but equally benefit our local economy by making organisers of future trips and residential aware of local accommodation, and history and cultural providers.”

It will be taking place in the Museum of Free Derry, Apprentice Boys Memorial Hall, The City Walls, St Columb’s Cathedral, Guildhall Square, the Peace Bridge, Ebrington Square, the Bogside Murals, Tower Museum, Creggan Country Park, the City Cemetery, the Waterside Workhouse Museum, St.Columb’s Park House, The Playhouse, The Verbal Arts Centre, The Nerve Centre, First Derry Presbyterian Church; An Cultúrlann; the International School For Peace Studies; The Waterside Theatre; the Fountain/Bishop Street Interface; the Fountain Heritage Tower; and An Grianán Fort.
