City named fourth best city in the world to visit next year

LONDONDERRY UK City of Culture 2013 has been named the fourth best city in the world to visit next year by the travellers’ bible Lonely Planet.

SDLP Foyle MP Mark Durkan said: “I am delighted at Lonely Planet’s rating which will undoubtedly help to attract thousands of tourists to a new and revitalised Derry in 2013.

“People throughout the world will see a city that nurtures talent – plays, writes, sings, dances, creates and innovates.

“This is a great opportunity not just to showcase Derry’s cultural pedigree but also to provide a platform for our future growth – acting as it will as a springboard for long-lasting economic benefit to the city.”
