City blooming fantastic after award win

LONDONDERRY is blooming fantastic at the moment after winning the small city class in the coveted Ulster in Bloom awards.

Mayor of Londonderry, Kevin Campbell, said he was delighted the city had been awarded this accolade.

He commented: “The city is looking fantastic at the moment with everyone working together to make it look well. A special note of congratulations must be extended to Council’s grounds maintenance and cleansing staff for their efforts in additional floral displays across the city.

“This work will continue as we prepare for next year and being part of a number of competitions across Ireland and welcoming thousands of people to our city to be part of our City of Culture celebrations.”

Danny McCartney, Grounds Maintenance and Cemeteries Manager said: “A lot of hard work and effort has gone into this year’s campaign and we have made considerable progress in improving on how the city is presented.

“Our floral displays across the city have been really well received and the feedback we have been getting from the public has been very positive. We are looking forward to stepping up our campaign further for City of Culture.

“The award is recognition of the work carried out by everyone involved, in particular our own Grounds Maintenance and Cleansing staff.”

The city will also represent Northern Ireland in the Small City category of the Britain in Bloom awards next year.
