Breakwater pontoons arrive for Foyle
Pontoons arriving in Londonderry this afternoon
VITAL marine infrastructure has been secured for the Foyle, to the satisfaction of the Loughs Agency.
Derick Anderson of the Loughs Agency has expressed his satisfaction at the fruition of the Agency’s marine tourism bid to EU Interreg funding, with the arrival on the Foyle of 140 metres of heavy breakwater pontoons.
The Port of Londonderry is the project partner for the new marine event platform and the harbour master, Bill McCann, is looking forward to utilising the new city centre pontoon to facilitate marine events.
Town Clerk and Chief Executive of Derry City Council, Sharon O’Connor welcomed the arrival of the marina infrastructure saying: “It’s really fantastic to see all the elements coming into place. It will create a vital piece of infrastructure for the city and greatly expand the potential of the River Foyle as a location for marine events. We look forward to the arrival of the Clipper Fleet, later in June, as the first visitors to use the new marina development.”
