700 arson attacks in NW

OVER 700 arson offences were recorded in the North West between 2009 and July of last year, it’s been revealed.

In Londonderry the PSNI recorded 415 arson attacks; in Limavady there were 131; in Strabane there were 121; and in Magherafelt there were 52.

Over the same time frame 157 arson attacks on homes were recorded across the North broken down for Londonderry (81); Limavady (35); Strabane (26); and Magherafelt (15).

Across the whole of Northern Ireland: “5,989 offences of arson were recorded.”

A total of 1,393 of these arson attacks were identified as being reported as occurring in a dwelling.

And between April 2009 and July 2012 there were 706 people arrested for arson and 213 people were charged.
