6k women travelled to Britain to have abortions

OVER six thousand woman from Northern Ireland travelled to Britain to have abortions between 2006 and 2010.

The women had abortions in England, Scotland and Wales in the five years 2006-2010, it has emerged.

Over 1000 abortions were registered to women from Northern Ireland in each year.

Health Minister Edwin Poots revealed 6044 women had abortions in total, mostly in England and Wales although nine abortions were carried out in Northern Ireland.
